The Marie

The Marie project is a two-stage transformation of an existing Northern Beaches home into a modern family residence with a calm, considered feel. The owners wanted high ceilings, a simpler material palette, and an open, light-filled interior — with a larger extension and pool to follow once the internal work was complete.

Rather than attempting everything in a single build, we planned the project in two clearly defined stages. This approach gave the owners better control over budget, kept the family living comfortably throughout, and let us sequence the trades and approvals in the most efficient order.

Stage 1 — Internal demolition and full renovation (complete)

Stage 1 took the existing home back to its bones. We carried out a full internal demolition, then rebuilt the interior from the ground up — raising ceilings throughout, reworking the floor plan, and finishing the spaces with a clean, modern aesthetic that will carry through into the extension.

The result is a home that already feels transformed, and a structural and design foundation that Stage 2 can build directly onto.

Stage 2 — Extension, reroof and pool (in progress)

Stage 2 is now underway. This stage adds a substantial extension to the side and rear of the property, replaces the existing roof with a new metal roof across the entire home, and includes the installation of a pool.

The high ceilings and simple, modern material palette established in Stage 1 will run throughout the new spaces, so the finished home reads as one cohesive build rather than an addition tacked onto an existing house.

Both stages were planned together from day one — sequencing, structural decisions, services, and finishes — so nothing done in Stage 1 needs to be undone or reworked when Stage 2 ties in. That planning is what keeps a two-stage project of this scale efficient on both time and cost.

Stage 2 is on track to be complete by summer. We'll be adding finished photography and video of the extension, new roof, and pool to this case study once the build wraps up.
