Chris Parry founded Formation Building in 2016 after spending a decade as a carpenter and tradesman across Sydney's Northern Beaches. The business was built on a straightforward idea: that homeowners making significant investments in their homes deserve a builder who shows up, communicates clearly, and delivers what they agreed to.
Formation Building has completed over 30 projects since 2016. It remains deliberately small.

Chris started his carpentry apprenticeship in 2006. Over the next decade he worked across residential and commercial sites on the Northern Beaches, learning what quality construction actually looks like from the inside — and increasingly frustrated by the gap between what builders promised and what they delivered.
In 2016 he established Formation Building with a specific ambition: to run a small building company that operated the way a skilled tradesman would — carefully, accountably, and with genuine pride in the work.
That background shapes everything about how the business operates. When Chris walks through a completed project, he's looking at it with a carpenter's eye — the joinery tolerances, the material junctions, the finishing details that most clients won't consciously notice but will feel every day they live in the space.

How we operate
Limited projects. Full attention.
Formation Building runs a small, core team. At any given time, we have a limited number of active projects — not because of capacity constraints, but by design. It's the only way to maintain the standard of communication and finish that our clients expect.
Chris is on site at every project. Not managing from a distance — on site, with the trades, making decisions in real time. When a subcontractor's work isn't right, it gets fixed before the next trade arrives. When something unexpected comes up during construction, the client hears about it the same day.
This is not how most builders operate. It's how we've chosen to.

We'd rather be the right builder for fewer clients than the wrong one for many.
Formation Building is built for Northern Beaches homeowners who are planning a significant renovation, extension, or second storey addition — and who've decided that quality of outcome matters more than finding the lowest quote.
Our clients tend to be families who've lived in their home for years and want to stay. They're not flipping — they're investing in a place they love, and they want the result to reflect that. They want to understand what's happening on their site, be kept informed through the build, and receive a finish they're proud of.
